I dislike politics, so I might be ignorant here. I entered the room waiting for America’s Got Talent to resume 😉
So, now I’m just wondering, isn’t attacking the other party’s candidates from the platform of the Republican National Convention like throwing muddy water bombs into your fountain? These allegedly like-minded individuals (who blatantly attacked one another’s characters during the debates, incidentally) are there to confirm their delegate and then splash around in the fresh water – celebrate.
Maybe I’m confused, but who at that convention would oppose or disagree about the other party’s candidates? At this point it’s not about the other party. Shouldn’t they stick to their point? :p
I guess not outside my world. This is why I tune out until after the conventions – I can find the facts about the candidates’ characters on line without all the drama.

What you describe is a serious problem with our politics in the United States and it afflicts the extremists both sides of the debate.
This element forgets that healthy political systems require that people practice the skill of respectfully disagreeing.
From my perspective, the republican party is dominated by an angry people who show no awareness that civilized compromise is the only way we can survive as a nation or as species.
We once had a social contract in which citizens understood that everyone gets some of what he wants but no one gets everything.
Our system was never perfect which is why our greatest Statesmen refer to making a more perfect Union.
The core of our strength as a nation is E Pluribus Unum
The community is not asking people to give up their liberty.
We’re asking them to share it with the rest of us.

Undiluted political and economic systems based on dogma must always fail.
Dogma provides answers but not the ones we need; there is no room for the real in dogma.
People are pain right now and much of that pain is caused by the prevailing dogma that we can be United as ‘individuals’ who aren’t accountable to each other.
That’s impossible.
You can’t be United and completely separate.

Excuse me if I fumble here. I’m a little confused, not sure where you’re coming from, Sir. I recognize the vice-grip of Big Business/Big Government, but I’m not talking about dogma here (surely it will fail). I’m not talking about doctrine, tradition nor religiosity either. As you rightly say, people are hurting and angry. So much so we want to fight. What I am saying (perhaps feebly) is we must attack the actual enemy, not each other. I entirely agree unity indeed requires accountability. Unity also involves shouldering our responsibilities, mutual respect (even when we must agree to disagree), actually hearing one another and staying in the conversation. Peace.

My reply: That’s what I mean although I think in terms of opposition rather than enemies. My weapon of choice is the ballot.
We must vote based by using the same criteria that we would use in hiring a lawyer or any other professional. Who will do the best job.

I actually do understand you then and we agree. While there are enemies, in this context opposition is a better word. I actually consider voting our responsibility more than a “right.” Slainte!

It’s a duty. When we don’t vote we get what we have now. If your vote didn’t matter there would not be so much effort to suppress voting.
I don’t know what to think of people who don’t the difference between an enemy and a different opinion.
I don’t understand people who won’t think.
