I come from a long line of patriots. service persons and first responders. Remembering what Memorial Day is actually about is not an annual event in my circles. We remember our fallen frequently, all year around.
I thank God that this year all my offspring have officially retired from military service. I can’t help but remember how close we came to a different perspective. We are fortunate indeed.

What Next: Behind Roo's Ruse 
Oh, I know what you mean! I’m so thankful my husband retired and my son completed his tours relatively unscathed.
All the males (except one) on both sides of my family, all the way back to the Civil War, have served in the military-quite a few of the females have, too. It’s humbling to think of all that they and others, like your family, have endured and sacrificed. I thank God daily for all members of service who are protecting our freedoms. Thank your family members for me, please.

Thank you! My son has finished and the yellow ribbons and blue star flag are put away. Like you my grandfather and my mom both served. Though they are both gone now, I learned from a young age the importance of being grateful everyday for all who serve and we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
