Aretha Franklin
R E S P E C T and love forever for an amazing woman, and a life well lived.
A too quick overview:
In my youth Aretha rocked me into self-awareness (Ya gotta love that opening lick):
I can’t lie, my all time favorite:
“The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’
Matthew 25:21 (NLT)

I loved that scene from the Blues Brothers. There is nobody that can play the Sax like Lou Marini Jr. His Dad was a Great Band College Band Director. Aretha was the delightful frosting on that beautiful cake. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I adored the house slippers. The original Blues Brothers movie was a tribute to the Great blues and jazz artists of the day. Aretha was and is still the reigning Queen

Aretha Franklin died from advanced pancreatic cancer which extremely painful. My Mom also died from pancreatic cancer in 1998. The pain is so intense that doctors administer morphine. At least now the Queen of Soul is no longer suffering.

I read about Aretha Franklin’s battle only hours before she passed. A very few years back I had planned to see her in Dallas (as I recall) when she cancelled that tour. Such wounds as the loss of your mom fade with time, but are never erased. Condolences, Deborah

Thanks. My Mom passed away August 2nd 1998 at the age of 68. She was in so much pain that she pulled off her hospital gown and pulled out the tubes. Even with the morphine she suffered. Finally the day that the nurses wanted me to sign a DNR Order, Do not resuscitate, I went home and prayed for God to take her home. He did. She died the following day. When I read the reports in the newspaper I knew she was suffering but at least now that suffering is over. Prayers for her family.

Ahem, that should have read, “praying for Aretha’s family and your continued healing.” Again, stiff fingers on a tiny cell keyboard…

Amen! Aretha Franklin lives on through her music.
She’s a classic and an original. A true Queen.
She has gone from Labor to Reward.
Aretha Franklin aka the Queen of Soul is now singing with the Heavenly choir.

I know that’s right. I spent most of yesterday watching her old interviews. She never lost. her edge, telling it like it is, she remained fiery and Sassy as ever

Yes. For a woman to make it in the music business and be successful you must be strong, tough and sassy. Don’t take any guff from anyone. Tell it like it is. Life is not a popularity contest especially for women. I’m an extremely outspoken bold blunt woman who is not afraid to speak her mind. I stopped caring about other people opinions years ago.

OMG, yes, the Blues Brothers bit was my favorite!
Someone posted on Facebook that in NY at the Franklin Street station, someone set up a memorial for her. Lovely.

In tribute I played Aretha youtube videos on and off all day. Death is part of life, but this death somehow feels like part of my life is over.

Yes, I get that. I feel it whenever a musician or actor I particularly liked as a child passes away.

I like your use of that scripture on this occasion. She was elegant and talented.
