If you’ve been following What Next you are aware I’m laboring under some exceptional technical difficulties.
1) I’m awaiting parts for my four-year-old notebook which torments me by flashing like a slow-mo strobe in a discotheque (Gen X’ers, Gen Y’ers and Millennials click here).
2) In the meantime I try to keep abreast of the Blogging Community and Facebook via my not-so-trusty old (retired) cell phone.
What this means to you:
Typos. Many of them.
Commenting on the plethora of captivating posts by even more phenomenal bloggers from my phone is always exciting. Not only do my fingers fluctuate between bold, beautiful and entirely inept on the nanosized keypad, but it can randomly choose to further humiliate me by posting without warning – sans proofing, etc. Annnd lost signals. That’s always fun.
While this experience could be incredibly frustrating, I admit it’s actually become a source of amusement. I remind myself frequently how gracious this amazing blogging community is, in between praying for my new friend with mad hardware skills. Through it all I’m actually happy with the progress on my chapters lately on the very, very old Windows 7 laptop.
It’s good to slow down sometimes. Random House, get ready.
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
1 Peter 5:6, 7 (NIV)
Been there. I feel for you, Roo!

Thanks Jacqui. ❤ I keep reminding myself it could be worse.

I completely understand. I’ve been through similar laptop issues. Suggestions: If you belong to AARP you are eligible for discounts on cellphones and computers. One great thing about being a Senior is that you can get products and services cheaper.

Every time I feel like blowing it off, I hear my dear, late Friends words, “Be true to your readers, Bert, and they’ll be true to you.” Besides, especially when it comes to technology, if you don’t use it you lose it.

Right now I’m typing this on my phone. Reason being, my laptop is in the living room right next to my husband who is watching a show I don’t like. If I go in there to get it, he’ll say, “is this bothering you? We can watch something else,” but I don’t want to watch anything, I want to sit in quiet and read blogs. Hence, here I sit on my phone.
Listen, I’ll edit your comment snafus if you edit mine. Deal? 😊

LOL! I know what you mean! We have a choice, to get frustrated, or to find the humor in it. Since neither will fix the problem, may as well choose to laugh. (See my post “What the —?!”) (February 7)

Now that you mention it, I remember that one! 😄

Yes….here’s the thing. WordPress will post your drafts without notice. Big news right, since it’s already happened to you! Worse yet, it will post in the middle of the night when you are presumably sleeping and can’t defend yourself 😲 I haven’t left a draft in there in two years because (GASP) I’d probably die of shame of they all got posted 😂😂😂 I keep every last draft in my email and copy it over when it’s done. Spooky!

I didn’t know this! I have several drafts, nothing has been posted randomly yet. But I think I better be proactive and schedule their posting than reactive.

It’s news to me too, Chrissy. I appreciate all the additional (coding/programming) work WP does. It’s constantly changing, upgrading and sometimes seems a mystery to me. In all fairness my mis-posts have been operator errors. Still, the few actual drafts I’ve been diapering are gonna get potty trained quickly.

Ironically, I was working on a draft today and went to schedule it for publishing and published immediately instead. Operator error😉

😊 I consider that a sign of growth, part of the writing experience. “Writing is easy. You sit at a typewriter and bleed.” Hemmingway. I hope you never inadvertently post a first (rough) draft rather than the polished piece. I’ve done it more than once ☺. Carry on, my friend.

Sam, you’re such a live wire! Wish I could let this slide onto the accommodating WP lap, but guilt would haunt me incessantly. My actual drafts collect dust undisturbed. I must shoulder the burden of responsibility for my operator errors alone here. 😩😶

Haha, they don’t do it intentionally, but I do believe when they are pushing out code and upgrading, things do tend to get purged out that weren’t..eh hem…*ready* yet.

Now THAT I can easily believe, Sam. Stuff indiscriminately happens!
